The best vegan and vegetarian addresses in Bordeaux
I am not vegetarian but more and more friends of mine are becoming so I decided to write this article on the best vegan and vegetarian addresses in Bordeaux as a memo. A well-filled address book for lovers of soy milk, hemp or squash seeds, tofu and avocado toast.
The best vegetarian and vegan addresses in Bordeaux
Where to eat vegan and vegetarian in the wine capital: my must-sees
Bordeaux has a reputation for being the capital of wine. Wine means cheese and charcuterie... So it's not easy to find vegan or vegetarian places in this big city. But I still found a lot of places that have recently started offering an adapted version of their menu to please those who are gluten intolerant and others...
Bordeaux vegetarian addresses are blooming as quickly as mimosas in spring! There are more and more of them and if I may confess I find that these addresses are much more creative than some more classic restaurants.
I studied in Bordeaux, almost 20 years ago (what already) and I can tell you that many addresses have changed. Here are my favorite vegan/vegetarian choices.
What can you eat when you are vegetarian?
For those wondering what a vegetarian can eat, here is a list of the main vegetarian food categories:
- THE Vegetables , such as broccoli, spinach and mushrooms, are must-haves.
- THE Fruits , including options like bananas, berries and dried fruits, provide a sweet and nutritious boost.
- THE whole grain products and potatoes, like whole-wheat pasta and oatmeal, provide essential carbohydrates.
- THE Legumes , such as beans, chickpeas, and lentils, are important sources of protein and fiber. These categories offer a variety of tasty and balanced options for a complete vegetarian diet.
In big cities like Bordeaux and Paris, you will certainly find vegan/vegetarian restaurants and vegan places. They are now not only found in big cities and that is really a good thing. If you feel like it, here is a list of vegan addresses in Capbreton/Hossegor.
Enough talk, let's get to the addresses
Mamacam-canteen
The vegetarian and eco-responsible food address
The Bordeaux canteen Mamacam is not far from the Aquitaine museum, so it is easy to get there on foot from rue Sainte Catherine or by tram line B.
MAMACAM is a 100% vegetarian and also vegan-friendly restaurant. A vegetarian and eco-responsible canteen as they like to say. Everything is homemade and the owner is very kind. The menu is published daily on their insta page. Here we eat fresh and according to the chef's inspirations. The dish of the day is €13.50 and the starter/main course/dessert menu is €20. It's really super reasonable for a vegan/vegetarian meal in Bordeaux.
The restaurant has a warm and comfortable atmosphere. It almost feels like you are in someone's home as the owner prepares the meals directly in the open kitchen.
Kabana
I think it's my favorite, so go for it with your eyes closed>/p>
Kabana is a 100% vegetarian restaurant with vegan and gluten-free options. There are 2 daily specials per week. Kabana's reputation and signature dish is the vegan hot dog, it is made with a vegetable charcoal bun. This is not the dish I chose but the owner really made us want it.
The dishes are colorful and delicious, the restaurant is nicely decorated. Of course we will come back to taste the vegan hot dog.
Monkey Mood
The vegetarian journey on the plate
Monkey Mood is an all-vegan restaurant serving Indonesian-inspired cuisine. The interior is charming and they also have a few outdoor tables.
I'm a spring roll freak, and I can tell you that the ones at Monkey Mood are amazing. The peanut sauce was also perfectly spiced.
On the menu you can order: Nasi Goreng, Kimcheese Burger or bowls for a meal with more vegetables.
Book a table online if you want to eat there, otherwise it's very difficult to find a place. The place is very popular!

The Boune
The small neighborhood address
Le Boune is a brand new vegan restaurant offering healthy bowls, salads and wraps. It replaces the iconic Kitchen Garden, which closed in 2021.
The restaurant is located on the corner of a lively square and one of Bordeaux's most beautiful photo spots, La Grosse Cloche (a large clock tower). You can dine inside or outside on the terrace.
This winter the restaurant "Le Boune" offered on the menu, a hot bowl, Indian inspired, the Mumbai, with chicken OR falafels OR lentil pancake, coral lentils, grilled eggplant, cooked carrots, sweet potatoes, poached egg, coconut curry sauce. (13.50€) A beautiful plate and a culinary journey that I really enjoyed. A vegetarian gourmet address, here you are served quickly, everything is fresh and affordable.

This ethical and gourmet café has become a real reference in Bordeaux for lovers of plant-based sweets. Here, everything is 100% plant-based, but without ever sacrificing pleasure. There are unique creations such as vegan cheese, plant-based honey, or even a white chocolate bueno bar that will delight gourmets.
Also not to be missed, their peanut praline and their delicious spreads, perfect to accompany a refreshing sparkling drink. This place has become a must for all those looking for a gourmet and eco-responsible break in the heart of Bordeaux.
